 |
| The Core Area, the oldest
part of Davis, is widely recognized as a
community treasure. The Core Area is both
a well populated residential area, and the
community's commercial center. The commercial
district features a host of retail shops,
theaters, restaurants, service businesses, and
professional offices. The residences in
and near the Core Area are only a short walk
from the commercial center's shops and
amenities. Homes in the Core Area tend to
be valued at a higher level than homes in other
parts of Davis, on, for example, a square foot
basis, reflecting the prime location and
historical aspects of this part of town. |

Homes in the Core Area are mostly smaller
like this home, a classic example of
National-style architecture. Core Area
lots are generally on the smaller side, but
some are moderate or even large. Most
homes feature hardwood floors, multi-pane
windows, and plentiful yard space. |
 |
Like
East Davis, parts of the Core Area are
undergoing gentrification, and it is quite
common to see new homes like this one, and homes undergoing
extensive renovation. Note the absence
of street-facing garage doors, an attractive architectural
feature only now being rediscovered by
neo-traditional land planners and architects. |

Central
Park is one of the main community gathering
areas of Davis. In particular, a vibrant
farmers' market takes place every Saturday and
Wednesday. |
